About the Green CSCS Card

The Green CSCS card is the entry-level card in the Construction Skills Certification Scheme, recognised across most UK construction sites. It confirms you understand basic site health and safety and your responsibilities while working — it's aimed at general labouring and entry-level site work, and doesn't require any existing construction qualification to apply.

Who Can Apply

  • No prior construction qualification needed to start
  • Minimum age: 16
  • Complete the Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment
  • Pass the CITB HS&E Operatives Test

Both the Level 1 Award and the CITB test are required for your Green card — our pricing tiers above let you buy either separately if you've already completed one of them elsewhere.

What Our Learners Say

★★★★★
"Just completed my NVQ Level 2 for tiling, got my Green CSCS card through Workskills Training Ltd as well. Excellent value compared to some of the other companies I contacted, very good customer service and the assessor was very supportive."

Renewal

Your first Green card is valid for 2 years. When you renew, it extends to 5 years. Many learners use that time to progress toward a Blue Skilled Worker card by completing an NVQ Level 2 in their trade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience to get a Green Card?

No. The Green card is the entry-level CSCS card and doesn't require any prior construction qualification or on-site experience.

Does the Full Package guarantee my CSCS card?

No — CSCS's approval decision is theirs alone, based on you meeting their requirements, and we can't guarantee that outcome. What we do guarantee is that we'll coordinate your Level 1 Award correctly, book your CITB HS&E Test with our delivery partner, and submit your CSCS card application promptly and accurately once you've passed.

Is the CITB HS&E test included in the Full Package?

Yes. Booking your CITB HS&E Test is included as part of the £249 Full Package — you don't pay for it separately.

How long is the Green Card valid for?

Your first Green card is valid for 2 years. When you renew, it extends to 5 years.

Is funding available?

It depends on your circumstances and whether your employer is CITB-registered. CITB funding rules changed significantly in January 2026, and the Green card route sits outside most of the NVQ-focused grant schemes. We'll give you an honest, specific answer for your situation rather than a blanket promise.

What jobs can I do with a Green Card?

General labouring, site cleaning, materials handling, traffic marshal support, and groundworker assistance are all typical entry-level roles a Green card gives you access to.
