Your CPCS/NPORS Plant Card Pathway

Operating plant or machinery uses a separate card scheme from CSCS. Here's how the Red and Blue plant operator cards work.

Red Card

Trained Operator

Entry point for plant operators. We'll book your CPCS or NPORS theory and practical test for your machine category, coordinate your CITB HS&E test, and handle your Red card application — valid for 2 years, during which we'll help you plan your NVQ to upgrade to Blue.

View Plant Training →

Blue Card

Competent Operator

Confirms full competence to work unsupervised. We'll coordinate your relevant NVQ, confirm your CITB HS&E test is current, and handle your Blue card application submission — valid for 5 years and renewable.

View NVQ Upgrade Route →

We manage your CPCS/NPORS application process for you — booking tests, coordinating your NVQ, and submitting your card application to NOCN (CPCS) or NPORS on your behalf. The awarding body makes the final decision on issuing your card.

Why Choose Us

One Route, Fully Managed

To get a CSCS card you need to pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and hold the right qualification. We arrange both — test booking, training and card application — in a single route.

Funding Support, Honestly Explained

CITB funding changed significantly in January 2026 — some courses (like Plant Operations and Scaffolding) still qualify for direct grants, while others (including SMSTS and SSSTS) are now funded through CITB Employer Networks at different rates. We'll give you a clear, current answer for your specific course, not a blanket promise.

Online & Classroom Options

NVQs are assessed remotely from evidence you gather on site, and Site Safety Plus courses run online or in the classroom — so you qualify without losing paid days.

Learner Story

From Labourer to Site Supervisor — Damilola's Journey

"I started out on-site as a Green Labourer, doing general groundwork like a lot of people do when they're getting started in construction.

I could see the more experienced guys on-site directing traffic and supervising lifts, so I looked into Plant Training first — got my Traffic Marshal ticket, then went on to qualify as a Crane Supervisor. That gave me more responsibility and better rates straight away.

From there, Construction Skills Professionals helped me put my on-site experience towards an NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Work Supervision — no exams, just evidence of the work I was already doing. That NVQ got me my Gold Supervisor card, and I'm now supervising a team on-site myself."

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a CSCS card?

Most learners receive their CSCS card within 3–5 working days of passing the CITB HS&E test, provided the qualifying course or NVQ is complete. NVQ routes typically take 6–12 weeks end to end.

Is CITB funding available for my course?

It depends on the course. Since January 2026, CITB changed how funding works — some courses (like Plant Operations and Scaffolding) remain on the standard Grants Scheme, while others (including SMSTS and SSSTS) are now funded through CITB Employer Networks at reduced rates. NVQ achievement grants are now a flat £600 regardless of level, and Level 7 qualifications are no longer funded. We'll check exactly what applies to your course and confirm the real figure before you book — no blanket promises.

What's the difference between CSCS and CPCS?

CSCS cards certify general construction workers, supervisors and managers; CPCS cards certify plant operators (excavators, cranes, telehandlers). We deliver routes to both.

Can I complete an NVQ without leaving site?

Yes. Construction NVQs are assessed from evidence of your real work — photos, statements and site visits — so there's no classroom requirement and no lost days.

Do you cover my area?

We operate UK-wide. Online courses and remote NVQ assessment are available everywhere; classroom courses run at partner centres across England, Scotland and Wales.
