Level 2 NVQ Trowel Occupations

The NVQ Level 2 Trowel Occupations assessment and training course has been developed for Trowel worker that have sufficient expertise in their field and those who can demonstrate their required Trowel competence, as written in the National Occupational Standards.

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations assessment course is designed for people who have a lot of real-world experience that shows they can pass the Trowel Occupations certificate.

Participants can show their knowledge of Trowel Occupations and experience through this assessment and training session. Additionally, it enables a qualified worker to demonstrate his or her abilities in a real workplace setting, demonstrating their suitability to execute Trowel Occupations tasks in the building industry.

After submitting an application for the NVQ Level 2 Trowel Occupations programme, you will be allocated a dedicated assessor who will work with you to earn your qualification during the whole programme.

The qualification will develop knowledge and skills in trowel work for the construction sector. Learners can specialize in erecting and setting out masonry structures, concrete, maintaining slate and tile roofing, installing drainage, plastering or rendering.

This qualification covers the following areas:

  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Erecting masonry structures in the workplace
  • Setting out masonry structures in the workplace
  • Conserving or restoring stonemasonry, brickwork or earthen structures in the workplace
  • Preparing and mixing lime mortars in the workplace
  • Erecting masonry cladding in the workplace
  • Erecting thin joint masonry structures in the workplace
  • Placing and finishing non-specialist concrete in the workplace
  • Maintaining slate and tile roofing in the workplace
  • Repairing and maintaining masonry structures in the workplace
  • Producing internal solid plastering finishes in the workplace
  • Applying solid render to background surfaces and producing finishes in the workplace
  • Installing drainage in the workplace

Rationale and purpose of this qualification

This qualification is aimed at those who are in work and are looking for recognition of their prior learning and experience.

Its primary purpose is to confirm the learner’s occupational competence in wood occupations. As a work-related, competence-based qualification it provides confirmation to employers, industry managers and card schemes that the learner has the skills and knowledge needed to meet the nationally recognised standard to carry out the role.

Learners who achieve this qualification can use it to gain employment, to progress in the industry, or to work towards another qualification (see Progression).

Recognition

This qualification is supported by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).

CSCS provides a registration card scheme acknowledged by industry for those involved in construction. The scheme recognises skills, knowledge and understanding, competence and qualifications.

What does this qualification cover?

As this is a competence-based qualification, learners will be acquiring the knowledge and skills required through either on-the-job experience or in a learning environment.

To achieve the whole qualification, learners need a minimum of 41 credits. They must complete between three and seven mandatory units plus between one and three optional units from the qualification structure. (See Qualification content and delivery tools.)

There are no specific skills, knowledge, understanding or any other qualifications that must be achieved in order to start this qualification, however learners must have the potential and opportunity to gain this qualification successfully.
